His name was Sylvester Wianecki. Most knew him as Sam. He was my Grandfather. He was born in
December, 1923. He suffered with a heart condition for quite a while, until finally passing away on
December 9, 1984, at the age of 61, at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah, WI.
Sylvester was a military veteran, as he served in WWII. He wasn't a combat soldier. From what I
understand... he was there to help with certain things. I was never told that he was a combat
soldier. I recall my Grandmother telling me that he had to come home because of Grandma giving birth
to my Mom, Kathy Harris. Grandma always told me it was Grandpa's fault. I always thought that
story was funny.
He worked at James River Paper Company, in Menasha, WI, for many years. He married Dorothy Wianecki
and resided in Menasha, WI until they were separated the day he died.
Sylvester was survived by his Loving wife: Dorothy Wianecki - Menasha, WI, five children: Kathy
(Lawrence - now deceased as of May, 2007) Harris - Menasha, WI, Tom (Sheila) Wianecki - Oshkosh, WI,
Barb (Jack) Dirr - Bogota, NJ, Judith (Jay) Janis - Appleton, WI, and John (Jan) Wianecki - Menasha,
WI. He is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, neices, and nephews.
Sylvester was preceeded in death by his brother(s) and sister(s) as well as some other family
members.
I will always remember Grandpa for the way he was good with children. He always liked to play tea
party with my sisters and me when we were young. I think that is when I tasted my first sip of
wine... with our parents' permission, of course. Grandpa used to pick us up from school and CCD
also. He always was the first to volunteer to do those kinds of things for Mom if Mom couldn't
be there to pick us up.
Grandpa was a strong man. I always admired him for a lot of things. When he died... it was very hard
for my entire family. As of this year (2007), Grandpa has been gone for 23 years (in December). I
miss him very much. My Mom's side of the family has stuck close together and by each
others' side since then. It always felt good to be around them during family get togethers.
Anyway... I don't have all the facts I need for this eulogy to make sense... but hopefully in
time I will have everything I need to make it complete. But thank you for stopping by and taking a
peak anyway. It means a lot to me. Have a good day !
